A few simple rules....
The American Ideat competition is simply judged karaoke... easy... a rotating panel of "celebrity" judges drawn from the local music, media and art realms will determine your fate and your opportunity for advancement to the semi-final round. Tryouts: Contestants in the tryout rounds may select their songs from the list provided (lots to choose from) or you may bring your own karaoke CD. Semi-finals: Something new... for the first time, the semi-finalists will sing with a live band. There will be two elimination rounds. In the first round, semi-finalists will be able to pick their own songs. The band will do their best to accommodate the choice, but it's a good idea to have a back-up selection. The semi-finalists still remaining for the second round will have a limited selection of songs available. The available songs will remain a closely guarded secret until just moments before the second round begins. Only 5 (or possibly 6) finalists will advance to the final round. Final: During the final round, the finalists will each have a last chance to sing a song of their choice. Then, for the final elimination, and the crown (er, cone) a surprise song will be performed by the last contestants standing...
NOTE: If you try out in an early round, don't make the semi-final cut and can't accept the crushing blow, you can try again in later rounds. (If time is limited, preference will given to contestants who did not compete in earlier rounds)
